DIY FREE Cross hanging

I absolutely love this cross hanging above my fireplace! It gives a beautiful focal point for my living room and represents the most important person in our lives. And the fact that it was FREE makes me smile even bigger! I made this cross for free out of recycled burlap from my youngest's first birthday banner and sticks out of my yard!

This DIY project takes less than 10 mins from start to finish, is easy clean up, and requires very few supplies. It just doesn't get any better than that!

Start by gathering your supplies. You will need thin sticks or straw, recycled ribbon or burlap, and scissors.

Next cut your burlap or ribbon into four 24 inch pieces and seperate your sticks into two piles. You need a long stick pile and a short stick pile.

Now lets put our cross together. This is super simple all you have to do is cross, flip, tie, and cut.

Start by gathering your long sticks into an even-ish pile with the thickest part in the center. Then place 2 of your ribbon/burlap pieces beside each other,  underneath the sticks, in the opposite direction. Be sure to leave at least 6 inches on the right side.

Now start crossing! First, cross the shorter pieces on the right across the front.  Then, flip your cross over,  cut the strings leaving plenty of slack and tie them.  Tie them tightly. Then flip you're cross back over.  This will be front of your cross.

Next, gather your short sticks and criss cross the other two pieces of ribbon underneath them.

Cross the pieces over the top and flip the sticks over.

Place the short sticks on top of the ribbon on the long sticks. Make sure your shorter sticks are in the position you want them to be on the cross.

Flip the whole cross over and tie the ribbon/burlap from the short sticks around the long sticks in a criss cross motion, securing them tightly to the long sticks.

Continue to tie the strings in a criss cross motion leaving two longer pieces towards the top of your cross.

Cut excess ribbon/burlap off the now shorter pieces and tie the longer pieces at the top together making a loop.

See my small white nail a little above center of the frame?
Secure the cross to the wall by hanging the loop on a nail or thumbnail on your wall and enjoy! !
